Rebuilding This Site With AI as a Build Partner
How I used Claude and Lovable to rebuild my own portfolio, and what working with AI as a build partner actually taught me
The situation
My old site told the wrong story. It was built around an identity I'd already outgrown, and updating it inside a page-builder theme was slow, fiddly, and never quite matched how fast my actual work was moving. I wanted a rebuild that reflected where I was headed, without hiring it out or spending months on it.
What I did
Starting with conversation, not code
I worked through brand direction, tone, color, and structure the same way I'd work through any other ambiguous program, by talking it out. Claude helped me think through positioning and turn that thinking into clear instructions, then Lovable took those instructions and actually built the site.
Catching what AI got wrong
Here's the part most people leave out of stories like this: early passes needed real correction. AI-generated placeholder stats that looked plausible but weren't mine. A toolkit list of tools I don't actually use. A case study built around a program that didn't happen the way it was described. None of it was malicious, it's just what happens when a tool fills gaps with something reasonable-sounding instead of leaving them blank. Catching that, and rebuilding each section with real numbers and real stories, was as much a part of this project as the building itself. If anything, it's the part that mattered most.

Learning what AI is actually good at here
AI was genuinely excellent at structure, iteration speed, and turning a vague idea into a real draft to react to. It was not good at knowing what was true about my own work. That distinction, where to lean on it and where to slow down and verify, is exactly the muscle I bring to AI adoption work for other people, and building this site was a chance to practice it on myself first.
The result
The site you're on right now. Every stat, every case study, every line of copy has been checked against something real, my resume, an actual report, or my own account of what happened. Nothing here is AI's best guess dressed up as fact.
